Announcing a New Update to the Roland GK mount:

The new V2 mount attaches directly to a Tune-o-matic style bridge. This gets around the issue of attaching to guitars with P-90s, recessed Humbucker pickups or other more exotic pickup assemblies. Another advantage of this new mount is that base clips can be attached to multiple guitars so the GK assembly can be moved from one guitar to another with minimal adjustments.

The disadvantage of this assembly is that the mounting clip sits in between the Tune-o-matic posts and the bridge. In order to install this mount the guitar strings need to be slackened or removed and the bridge height will need to be adjusted. Not all users may be comfortable with that level of work on their guitars.  I intend to post a video to show this process and will add a link once that is completed.
I anticipate that some users may be concerned that adding this plastic assembly to the bridge may change (darken) the natural sound of their guitar. I can not hear the difference and I am not sure that it would be perceptible or even measurable.

Up until now the GK Mount has been marketed exclusively on Shapeways.com.  The advantage to selling these on Shapeways is that they handle both manufacturing and product fulfillment. The disadvantage is that they only provide the printed parts and the end user has to source the hardware (screws and springs) necessary to assemble and install the mount. Also to be frank, Shapeways charges a significant amount for their fabrication service.

I will be adding the V2 mount to my Shapeways store soon.  But in the meantime I would like to work directly with the end users to Beta test this product. This will allow for providing a complete package that includes hardware for roughly the same price as just the plastic parts on Shapeways. It also allows for some more customer service than I can provide with Shapeways as an intermediary.

Quick Release GK Mount - This is what is missing from your Roland GK System

So you went out and purchased a cool Roland GK synth pickup for your guitar only to find that there is no ideal way to attach it to the guitar. Double sided tape doesn't hold it in place, drilling the face of the guitar is unacceptable and worse yet when you go to put the guitar back into its case the GK pickup doesn't fit in with the guitar. This product addresses the issue of having a solid reliable mount for the GK pickup that can instantly be removed or re installed without drilling holes in the guitar. The base portion of this assembly attaches to a mounting ring for humbucker pickups without the need for drilling holes in the guitar or using adhesive mounting tape. The GK pickup is mounted to the saddle portion of the assembly, which features a snap in feature. This allows for the GK pickup to be quickly removed and re-installed while maintaining precise adjustments and alignment. The complete assembly will require NOT INCLUDED (2) M4x10 mounting screws, (2) M4 nuts, (2) small springs. In some cases the base plate may require longer screws than the stock screws holding the pickup ring in place. This item includes both the quick release saddle and the humbucker base mount.

Please note, this model has been tested with the Roland GK2 model on Les Paul style guitars with tall pickup mounting rings. It may not work with other Roland GK units or guitars with shorter pickup mounting rings.  If you have a guitar or GK unit and are not certain that this will work please feel free to contact me. If needed, I may be able to develop a new model to fit your guitar or synth pickup.

There have been a number of inquiries about compatibility with various guitars. This model was designed for guitars with a raised tune-o-matic or tails stop bridge and standard humbucker pickups with raised mounting rings.  This design will not work with guitars where there are no elevated pickup rings.  Also it may not work on guitars that have low profile bridges where the strings run close to the body.
